Color and Emotion through Abstract Art

Exploring a range of emotions through color and environment

Elementary School
4 - 6

Students will explore their different emotions and how they react to changes in environmental factors (lighting and music) and color. Students will be given a brief summary of colors and what emotions we associate them with. Ex. Red is typically associated with anger. Students will then be prompted to create a grid of 4 different abstract art pieces with an emphasis on color that correlate to how they feel in differing environmental changes. Ex. How do I feel when classical music is playing? I feel calm so I will draw in blue. After, students will be able to compare the different sections of their grid to recognize how the changes in their environment affected them. Students will be able to pick from a variety of expressive mediums to complete this project
