Collaging, Printmaking, and Memory

Middle School
7 - 8
Students will be introduced to two distinct printmaking techniques: gelli mono printing and dry point etching, with a focus on integrating memories into their artwork. Through hands-on exploration, students experiment with acrylic paint, mark-making tools, and etching needles to create unique prints. Emphasis is placed on technique exploration, and integration of prints into backgrounds or environments through collage, all while infusing personal memories into their creations. Students are encouraged to reflect on their own and their peers' artworks, interpreting them through the lens of memories, feelings, and contextual information. The lesson aligns with visual arts standards, emphasizing experimentation, openness to new ideas, and interpretation of artworks, with a particular emphasis on exploring the prompt of memory.
